Born in Jacksonville, Florida, and raised in Europe, Katherine Sandifer
grew up bicultural and bilingual. She did her graduate training in Clinical Psychology at Wheaton College Graduate School
(Illinois), completing her Masters there in 1987.
She obtained her first
counseling position at Ecker Center for Mental Health in Elgin, Illinois, where strong supervision and collegiality set the
tone for that work setting and the next. Upon leaving that agency she continued her professional growth at the Guidance Center
of Elmhurst Hospital in Lombard, Illinois. In 1998 she went into private practice in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
She
continued her practice there until she relocated, and opened her private practice in Jacksonville, Florida in 2006.
-Her theoretical framework is psychodynamic (insight oriented), but she
is eclectic in drawing from other theories where helpful.
-Her approach is engaged, genuine, and reflective.
-She
uses accepted techniques, including behavioral ones where appropriate.
-She is particularly respectful of, and attuned
to the subject of faith.
-She is highly sensitive to the impact of gender, color, ethnicity, culture, and language.
Katherine Sandifer believes in the dignity of persons and in quality of care. She advocates for all clients’ right
to:
1) personal privacy,
2) choice of counselor and type of counseling,
3) control over “treatment
decisions” (including frequency and number of sessions).
